Oakland’s Mayor Jenkins Speaks Housing, Ice, and Police

Oakland Mayor Kevin Jenkins discusses homelessness and his push for more affordable housing. He furthermore discussed encampment sweeps and we differed on how dangerous the police department is to homeless people, as well as Black people. Mayor Jenkins talked about the major budget deficit in Oakland, and how it will lead to cuts in services that deal with housing as well as the Arts. We furthermore discussed the bloated police budget and the Oakland Police Department being under federal supervision for over 20 years. Cannabis and big tech were once talked about as being saviors to the Oakland economy, Mayor Jenkins spoke on how that is working out in the current day. We discussed the sanctuary city status of Oakland and what that means in Trump season. Lastly he discussed, a professional team being housed in Oakland and furthermore how the Coliseum is being sold to the African American Entertainment Group.
