The Average White Band’s Farewell
Alan Goree, the leader and founder, of the Average White Band sat and talked about the group’s farewell tour. He also discussed some of the milestones that AWB experienced being a band from Scotland and the UK, that were white, and that played funk in the 70’s, amidst all of the racial and political turmoil gripping the world and the American music scene. Goree ended with talking about the night in ’78 when Marvin Gaye jumped onstage, with AWB and started singing “I Heard It Through the Grapevine”.
