The Political Work and Passing of Assata Shakur

On September 25, ’25 Black Panther and Black Liberation Army member Assata Shakur took her last breath, in Cuba, while having been in political exile for 41 years, with a $2 million Obama-issued bounty on her head. A lot about her political life in the US, is written in her autobiography “Assata”, but her life inside of Cuba is rarely talked about. Kamau Abiodun is the founder of Community Movement Builders and in the past, he worked consistently with political exiles Assata Shakur, Nehanda Abiodun, and others on the now defunct Black August Cuba concerts. It is important for us to remember the work that Assata and Nehanda did before and after exile, as well as it is important for us to respect and honor the solidarity of the Cuban Revolution and people that kept these two, and many of our other freedom fighters out of the hands of the capitalist pirates. Tap in and listen to Kamau tell the story. Push play.
