Artist Saul Williams Discusses Art and Genocide
Multi-disciplined artist Saul Williams will be coming to Yoshi’s in Oakland on September 30 and October 1st. In this profound discussion, Saul explained the political role of an artist in today’s times. Williams talked about the connections between the genocides in the Congo, Gaza, the Sudan, and in Haiti. He also discussed how capitalist conditioning led many, in the US, to confuse collective Black liberation with individualist capitalist success aka “Black Excellence”. Williams lamented on how the system keeps us ignorant of history, so they can continue to run the same oppressive plays over and over again.
